Does taking an AP course allow additional quality points? The short answer is yes. However, under the new state law there are changes as to how many points a student may earn. These changes are outlined in the N.C. State BOE Policy GCS-L-004. The value is reduced for incoming freshmen for the 2015-2016 school year, but all current students and 2014-2015 freshmen are covered under the old policy. Under the old policy an A in a course will earn a student 6 quality points, but incoming freshmen will earn 5 quality points. Click on the button below to learn more.
How much does it cost to take an AP course? There is no charge for taking an AP course at Fike High School. The state now covers the cost for students to take the corresponding AP exam. Every Wilson County School student enrolled in an AP course will be required to take the exam. Even students who take an AP course through North Carolina Virtual Public School are required to take the exam.
